The frozen pink salty dog cocktail is a fun twist on a more classic drink. Traditionally made with either gin or vodka and grapefruit juice, the salty dog is then served in a highball glass with a salted rim. A Greyhound cocktail uses the same ingredients but leaves out the salt.
As good as the original is, this recipe goes not one, not two but three better. Instead of regular white grapefruit, the pink variety adds extra sweetness as well as some beautiful color. Blending the drink with ice to make it slushy is ideal for hot summer days and even the salt rim gets an upgrade. Instead of plain salt, we use our chili lime spiced salt for extra flavor and kick.
This drink is sure to become one of your summer favorites.
Rub the cut edge of the pink grapefruit along the rim of two cocktail glasses and dip into the spiced salt.
Add the vodka, pink grapefruit juice and grenadine into a blender. Fill with ice and blend until slushy. Pour into the prepared glasses and garnish with a wedge of pink grapefruit.
If you don’t have a bottle of grenadine handy, you can make your own by combining a cup of pomegranate juice, 1/4 cup of sugar and a tablespoon or two of lemon juice. Simply heat in a small pot until the sugar dissolves, pour into a bottle and store in the fridge.
