The recipe for this Frozen Cosmopolitan cocktail was inspired by the HBO series, Sex and the City. The 1990’s show didn’t invent the Cosmo but Carrie Bradshaw and her New York City gal pals on the show definitely made it famous. And even though the series is over, the drink’s popularity lives on in lots of variations.
A classic Cosmo consists of vodka, lime juice, cranberry juice and triple sec, an orange flavored liqueur. It’s shaken over ice then strained and garnished with a wedge of lime. The cranberry juice gives it the signature pink, girly color but it’s actually quite a strong cocktail.
For people who prefer a touch more sweetness, a half ounce of simple syrup or agave nectar does the trick. But in this frozen version, the sweet, raspberry flavored rim sugar gives the drink the needed sweet boost. Be sure to add plenty of ice to your blender for the perfect slushy consistency. Because, of course, there’s nothing like sipping an ice cold frozen cocktail in the summer.
Add a couple of tablespoons of the raspberry pink sugar to a shallow bowl. Brush the rim of a glass with corn syrup and roll the rim around in the sugar. Freeze for about 10 minutes.
Add the vodka, cranberry juice, lime juice and triple sec to a blender. Fill with ice and blend until slushy. Pour into the prepared glass and garnish with a wedge of lime.
