Blue Lagoon Margarita

Blue Lagoon Margarita

The blue lagoon margarita is a brilliant blue colored drink that mixes your favorite tequila with blue curacao, concentrated lime juice and has an added bit sparkle from the addition of lemon-lime soda. If you want to cut back on the sweetness, however, simply swap out the lemon lime soda for an unsweetened lime or lemon flavored sparkling water. And if you want to add more of a tropical islands flavor, replace the limeade concentrate with pineapple juice and add more ice.

A traditional margarita is a cocktail that includes tequila, orange liqueur such as triple sec or its more elegant cousin, Cointreau, and lime juice. It can be shaken with ice and served on the rocks or blended with ice in a blender and served frozen. Both versions are often served with salt on the rim of the glass. Although the drink gets a bit of sweetness from the orange liqueur, it remains, nevertheless, a strong drink. We’ve sweetened it up a bit more with the lime concentrate and replaced the orange liqueur with blue for a cool, tropical look.

CategoryYields1 Serving
 2 oz Lemon-lime soda, chilled
 2 oz Tequila
 2 oz Blue curacao
¼ cup partially thawed frozen limeade concentrate
 1 cup ice
Yellow colored margarita salt (we like this one from Rokz)

Place a tablespoon or two of the margarita salt in a shallow dish. Run the edge of a cut lemon or lime along the rim of the glass and roll in the salt. Set aside.

Add the tequila, lemon lime soda, blue curacao and ice to a blender. Cover and blend until the mixture is smooth. Pour into the prepared glass and serve.
