A little smoky (thanks to the mezcal), a little sweet (thanks to the citrus), this Blood Orange Mezcal Cocktail recipe is just fantastic. When you start to see blood oranges show up at the grocery store, be sure to pick up a few extra to make a batch.

Want to serve this blood orange cocktail as a frozen margarita, rather than on the rocks? Just add all the liquids into a blender with one cup of crushed party ice. Cover and blend until you reach your preferred slushy consistency. Then pour into salt rimmed glasses and serve.
Place a spoonful of the colored sugar in a shallow dish. Run the edge of a cut lemon or lime around the rim of a glass and dip into the sugar. Lift the glass, shake off any excess and set aside. Chill glasses in the freezer for a few minutes.
Add the mezcal, blood orange juice, Campari, honey syrup and lime juice to a cocktail shaker. Fill with ice, shake well and pour into the prepared glass.
Note: If you cannot find honey syrup, make your own by combining equal parts honey and warm water in a clean squeeze bottle and shaking well.
