We love this spiced bourbon almond nog cocktail because, let’s face it, we love egg nog. And we love bourbon and almond and holiday spices. But we really, really love egg nog and we find it hard to get through a holiday season without buying at least one container of it – usually more. It’s such a creamy, indulgent treat and it’s the holidays after all. But there’s no denying that the store bought version can be cloyingly sweet. No worries, though, because we also bought bourbon.
Of course just bourbon and egg nog would be totally fine but we tried balancing the flavors a little more with some almond liqueur, like Amaretto, and loved it. And warm spices like cinnamon and ginger never did egg nog any harm.
Because we’ve only used a couple of ounces of egg nog, there’s room for a hit of extra sweetness from a sugared rim using our colorful Christmas blend rim sugar. It looks as good as it tastes!
In a small bowl, mix 1/4 teaspoon Forest Green rim sugar, 1/2 teaspoon Ruby Red rim sugar and 1/2 teaspoon Cloud White rim sugar. Next, spoon a tablespoon or two of the rimming sugar into a shallow bowl.
Brush the edges of two cocktail glasses with the syrup and roll them around in the rimming sugar. Place in the freezer for a few minutes while you assemble the cocktail.
Add the bourbon, almond liqueur, eggnog, cinnamon and ginger to a cocktail shaker. Fill with ice and shake well. Pour into the prepared glasses.
