This savory spiced nuts recipe is an old family recipe and a signature treat we make every Christmas – and it’s become a staple in our house for after-school snacks for the grand-kids. Savory and spicy – with a little cheesy flavor from our Dell Cove Buffalo Wings popcorn seasoning – these are both healthy and filling.
To make these absolutely spectacular, you really don’t want to skimp on the nuts. Large whole nuts are beautiful and impressive, and great to serve. Best of all, these spiced nuts are easy to make and perfect to make ahead of a party, as they keep really well in a sealed container for a week or two.
They are a simple, yet special, before dinner nibble and make an unforgettable hostess gift.
They also take center stage on a goodie platter. I like to include a small bowl of these in the center of my Christmas cookie platter, and then surround the nuts with a variety of Christmas sweets, offering a nutty savory contrast to all the other sweet treats.
3 cups large whole nuts – I like an equal mix of almonds, pecans and hazelnuts
3 T vegetable oil
2.5 T Dell Cove Buffalo Wings Popcorn Seasoning
Preheat oven to 350° F. Place nuts in a medium heatproof bowl. Pour the oil into a small heavy saucepan and place over medium low heat until warm. (Stir constantly so it doesn’t burn!) Add the Dell Cove Buffalo Wings popcorn seasoning and stir until the mixture is aromatic, about 15 seconds. Pour the flavored oil over the nuts and stir to coat evenly. Transfer to a baking sheet. (You can line the baking sheet with a Silpat, if you want.) Bake, stirring occasionally until nuts are toasted, about 15 to 20 minutes. Store in an airtight container up to two weeks.
