Our New Orleans Hurricane Drink and Cajun Popcorn Pairing are easy recipes for any Mardi Gras party hostess to make. We think this is the best New Orleans style hurricane cocktail recipe out there.
The classic New Orleans-style Hurricane cocktail is a boozy, sweet drink that blends rum with fruit juice. Why? Most people think of a hurricane as the Pat O’Brien’s classic. We think that super red, passion fruit and grenadine syrup mix is too cloyingly sweet. This version is bright, fruity and tasty, without being too sugary. Plus, you can easily make this in bigger batches in advance, if you’re hosting a Mardi Gras party.
Every cocktail needs a snack to go with it, of course. A favorite pairing: Cajun popcorn, made with Dell Cove® Spicy Cajun Popcorn Seasoning and Dell Cove® Classic Theater popcorn kernels. DIRECTIONS FOR MAKING YOUR HURRICANE DRINKS
STEP 1: GARNISH YOUR GLASSES
Add a tablespoon of the green sugar to a shallow bowl. Run the edge of a cut lime or lemon around the rim of a hurricane style cocktail glass and dip into the sugar. Put ice in the glasses and set aside.
STEP 2: MAKE THE COCKTAILS
Pour the dark and light rums, Galliano, orange juice, pineapple juice passion fruit juice, lime juice, simple syrup and bitters into an ice-filled cocktail shaker. Cover and shake vigorously until shaker is well chilled. Strain into the prepared cocktail glass glass and serve.
DIRECTIONS FOR MAKING CAJUN POPCORN
FIRST, POP YOUR POPCORN
Using a 6 quart pan, add 4 T oil (vegetable, peanut or coconut work best) and 4 popcorn kernels. (Essentially, enough oil to cover the bottom of the pan.) Cover the pan with a lid and place it over medium heat.
After these kernels pop, the oil is extremely hot. VERY CAREFULLY add about 1/3 cup of kernels, re-cover your pan and shake the pan back and forth, to coat the corn kernels and prevent burning. When the popping sound slows to one pop every 3 – 5 seconds, remove the pan from the heat and put the popcorn into a big bowl.

NEXT, SEASON YOUR CAJUN POPCORN
Dell Cove® seasonings stick best to popcorn that is slightly moist and freshly popped.
Drizzle some melted butter or ghee, or a spritz of olive oil or even truffle oil onto your bowl of popped popcorn. Sprinkle on some Dell Cove® Spicy Cajun Popcorn Seasoning onto the popcorn. Using a spoon, gentle stir the popcorn to help the seasoning coat the popped corn. Repeat this process until the popcorn is seasoned to your taste.
