If you’ve ever visited New York’s iconic Serendipity restaurant, you’ve certainly seen couples sipping a giant chocolate slushy from a wide glass with two straws. The eatery’s family friendly recipe does not include alcohol but we certainly like the idea of a boozy frozen hot chocolate.
We made ours with good quality semi-sweet chocolate, not a hot cocoa mix. Then we added coffee liqueur and topped it with a generous drizzle of our chocolate rum caramel sauce. This is one delicious, adult treat!Print
4 oz. Semi-sweet chocolate
2 Tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
2 Tablespoons granulated sugar
1 1/2 Cups whole milk
1/2 Cup heavy cream or half and half
1/4 Cup coffee liqueur
Whipped cream for garnish
Chocolate Rum Caramel Sauce for topping
Add the chocolate to a bowl set over a pot of simmering water and stir until it begins to melt. Add in the milk, cream, sugar and unsweetened cocoa powder. Continue stirring and simmering over low heat until the sugar has dissolved and the liquid is smooth. Set aside to cool.
Add the chocolate mixture to a blender and fill with ice. Blend until thick and pour into 4 chilled glasses.
Top with whipped cream and chocolate rum caramel sauce made with our natural rum extract.
