Apple Pie Martini is a delicious cocktail for fall. Our apple pie martini is a festive, boozy treat that’s just the perfect amount of spice and sweet. We love it at the holidays because of the cinnamon flavor and aroma. But there’s really no wrong time to drink it. Need a drink for Pi Day? This is it!

It’s also easy to make and can serve either as a pre-dinner cocktail for cozy fall dinner or an after dinner dessert for Thanksgiving. If you don’t have a vanilla-flavored vodka, you can easily make one by infusing a bottle with several split vanilla beans. Or, worst case scenario – use regular vodka and a quarter teaspoon of vanilla extract and you’ll achieve the same flavor. David and I made this recipe for our family’s Sunday movie night tradition, where we are pairing popcorn and cocktails with our favorite films. Here is our Pi Day movie snack and drink pairing:

MOVIE: Hidden Figures (2016). The inspiring true story of three brilliant African-American women who worked at NASA in the 1950s and ’60s as “human computers” — and helped launch the manned spaceflight program. Starring Taraji P. Henson, Octavia Spencer and Janelle Monáe.

POPCORN: Apple Pie Popcorn. This popcorn is a snack, dessert and meal – all in one. Get our Apple Pie Popcorn recipe here.

Apple Pie Martini

  • Author: Patricia Beets
  • Yield: 4 martinis

Ingredients

Vanilla flavored vodka – 4 oz
Cinnamon flavored whiskey – 4 oz
Apple cider, non-alcoholic – 10 oz
Simple syrup – splash for the drink, and a few tablespoons for moistening the glass rim
Sugar, granulated – 4 Tablespoons
Cinnamon, ground – 1/2 Tablespoon
Chinese Five Spice, ground – 1 to 1.5 teaspoons
Ice cubes – for the glasses and for filling the shaker
Cinnamon sticks, whole – 4, for garnish

Instructions

FIRST, GARNISH YOUR GLASSES

In a small bowl, mix the sugar, cinnamon and Chinese Five Spice together. Add this cinnamon sugar onto a shallow dish. Brush the edges of a cocktail glass with simple syrup and then roll the wet glass rim around in the sugar.

Shake off any excess sugar. Repeat this process until all your glasses are rimmed with sugar, then place the glasses in the refrigerator for a few minutes to set and chill the glasses.

NEXT, MIX YOUR MARTINIS

Add the vanilla vodka, cinnamon whisky and apple cider to a cocktail shaker and fill with ice. Cover and shake. Fill the glasses with ice. Strain the martini into the ice-filled, sugar rimmed glasses, garnish with the cinnamon sticks and serve.
