The Americano Cocktail is a must make drink for your James Bond movie night at home. Why? He first ordered an Americano in the 007 novels. (Not a martini!) The cocktail recipe itself is extremely simple: Equal parts of Campari and sweet vermouth in an ice-filled glass and topped with soda water. The bittersweet taste is refreshing as any Campari cocktail – but it is VERY bitter.
David and I made this drink recipe as part of our family’s Sunday movie night tradition, and started pairing popcorn and cocktail recipes with our favorite films. Here is our James Bond movie night drinks and popcorn pairing:
MOVIE: Dr. No (1962). The classic James Bond movie where a British government agent seeks answers in a case involving the disappearance of a colleague and the disruption of the American space program. It stars a very young Sean Connery and Ursula Andress.
POPCORN: Bacon Popcorn with Caramel Drizzle. This recipe is a family movie night favorite, and the bitterness of the Americano pairs well with the sweet and smokey bacon caramel popcorn. Chunks of smokey bacon and Dell Cove® Kettle Corn popcorn seasoning give this bacon caramel popcorn a flavor twist. And then everything is baked together until you have salty-sweet, crunchy popcorn clusters. Get this recipe here.

Americano Cocktail
- Yield: 2 cocktails
Ingredients
Campari – 3 oz
Sweet Vermouth – 3 oz
Club soda – to top off the drinks
Orange slices – optional garnish
Simple syrup – to moisten the glass rims
Yellow sanding sugar – for garnish (we like the sugars from Country Kitchen Sweetarts)
Instructions
FIRST, GARNISH YOUR GLASSES
Add a tablespoon or two of the green rim sugar to a shallow dish. Brush the edges of a cocktail glasses with the simple syrup and then roll it around in the sugar. Place in the refrigerator for a few minutes to set and chill the glass.
NEXT, MAKE YOUR COCKTAIL
Fill your glassed with ice. Add Campari and Sweet Vermouth to ice-filled cocktail shaker. Top with the club soda and stir gently to combine. Cover shaker, shake vigorously until shaker is frosted (about 15 to 30 seconds). Strain into sugar-rimmed glasses and serve. Garnish with an orange slice (optional).
